ABSTRACT
Art; With the most aesthetic dimension of emotion and thought, sound, speech, mimic, movement and action, writing, color, line… Etc. known as expression. The aesthetic sharing of man with nature and objects is among the priorities of social life from past to present. Starting from the cave walls to the present day, this relationship that man has established in his adventure of existence, either voluntarily or involuntarily, has allowed the artist to personalize expressiveness, that is, to create his own style. Transforming or visualizing an internalized emotion or thought into a spiritual action is now a natural consequence of expressiveness.
At the end of the 19th century, an industrial age began to be experienced with the effect of the development and change provided by science. Industrial cities have alienated people from themselves and the society they live in; Class rifts have brought about a corrupt society. This life style devoid of emotion has fueled the tendency of the mentally introverted individual to express what he has internalized. This interaction provides the formation of surrealist and expressionist art understandings in 20th century art.
In this research, in which the literature review method was used, the cause and effect relationships in the emergence of the abstract expressionist movement, which brought an extraordinary breath to the understanding of modern painting art after 1940, were revealed. The works belonging to the pioneers of the period were tried to be analyzed analytically. Abstract expression painting, which is one of the strongest pioneers of expressionism, continues to exist in today's art understanding and continues to influence young artists.
